Germany hosts several African communities, including an active and organized Congolese diaspora.
For some Congolese who arrived after political tensions, the first challenge is administrative: understanding the procedure, learning the language and finding stable housing.
The second challenge is psychological. Leaving one’s country after pressure, threats or long-lasting fear often leaves deep marks.
The Congolese community then plays a crucial role: mutual aid, orientation, translation, moral support and preservation of cultural ties.
The German exile experience shows that protection alone is not always enough. One must also rebuild identity, dignity and a sense of future.
