Congolese journalists in exile: reporting despite the distance

Leaving one’s country does not mean leaving journalism. For some Congolese journalists, exile becomes another newsroom.

Congolese journalism has gone through several tense periods.

For some media professionals, exile became a forced continuation of their profession.

From Europe, they continue writing, investigating and analyzing Congolese current affairs.

Social media transformed that reality.

Today, a journalist can publish from Brussels, Paris or London while staying connected to Kinshasa.

But distance does not erase risks.

Pressure can continue through digital intimidation or public discrediting.

The profession changes geography, not always danger.

For many, exile protects physically but isolates emotionally.

Reporting becomes a way to remain alive in public debate.
