In many exile stories, returning home occupies a central place. People imagine seeing family, home, the city and places of memory again.
But for some Congolese, return remains impossible. The reasons may be political, judicial, security-related or psychological.
A former activist may fear arrest. A journalist may fear retaliation. A witness may fear that returning would also expose their family.
The impossible return is a form of prolonged exile. Even when a person obtains documents in Europe, their relationship with the country remains suspended.
Voix d’Exil RDC seeks to document this reality with humanity: sometimes administrative peace is not enough to erase the fear of going back.
